Mr. Brown is resident in the
firm's San Francisco office. He earned his undergraduate
degree at the University of Virginia before graduating in
1992 from William & Mary Law School, which was ranked among
the top three law schools in the country by The National
Jurist in the mid-1990s.
After law school, Mr. Brown
clerked in two courts, gaining expertise in trial procedure.
Following the clerkships, he became a successful trial
attorney. He has appeared in dozens of courts and tried over
30 cases. In his last trial, Mr. Brown was the lead counsel
for a small Bay Area company in a multi-million dollar
contract claim against a Fortune 200 defendant. The
defendant refused to offer any compensation before trial,
but Mr. Brown convinced a majority of jurors to find in
favor of the plaintiff, ultimately leading to a favorable
settlement of the case.
An experienced litigator, Mr.
Brown handles real estate, construction, employment and
general business matters, particularly focusing on wage,
fraud and collection claims.
Mr. Brown's clients include
j2 Global Communications, Inc., which runs the popular "eFax"
service. For several years in the mid-2000s, Mr. Brown was
j2's lead counsel in lawsuits against North America's
largest junk faxers, spearheading the efforts of j2 to put
an end to junk faxing in the United States. Mr. Brown has
obtained millions of dollars in settlement payments from
violators of federal laws prohibiting junk faxing and
telemarketing.
Mr. Brown also does pro bono
work for the Animal Legal Defense Fund. Among other goodwill
efforts, he has assisted the ALDF’s lead counsel in its
efforts to shut down unlawful puppy mills and to improve
conditions for animals at shelters run by local governments.
In addition to the bar of
California, Mr. Brown has been admitted to the bars of
Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia.
